T'Challa was King of Wakanda from 2016 until his death in 2024. He served as the Black Panther from 2008 until 2024.

T'Challa was born in Wakanda during the reign of his father, King T'Chaka, as the eldest son of T'Chaka and Queen Ramonda. T'Chaka appointed T'Challa to succeed him as the Black Panther in 2009. In June 2016, T'Challa appeared at the United Nations Vienna office with his father for the ratification of the Sokovia Accords, when a van bomb detonated outside of the building, killing T'Chaka. T'Challa became king of Wakanda after his father's death. Attributing the bombing to Bucky Barnes, T'Challa located Barnes in Bucharest and attempted to kill him before German police arrested him, Steve Rogers, Sam Wilson, and Barnes. During the Avengers Civil War, he allied himself with Rogers and fought against Tony Stark's faction of the Avengers in the Battle at Leipzig-Halle Airport. In Siberia, T'Challa discovered that Helmut Zemo was responsible for the bombing, preventing Zemo from committing suicide and detaining him.

T'Challa was challenged for the throne by M'Baku, but successfully defeated him. He was coronated after his victory. As Black Panther, T'Challa became involved in Ulysses Klaue's arrest. Erik Killmonger, T'Challa's cousin and a former United States Navy SEAL, challenged him for the throne. Killmonger defeated T'Challa and was coronated. T'Challa's sister Shuri formed an insurgency with the Wakandan royal family to depose Killmonger. In the battle of Mount Bashenga, T'Challa fought Killmonger and became King of Wakanda. T'Challa fought in the Infinity War and mounted an offensive in Wakanda in the prelude to the battle of Wakanda, but Thanos was able to initiate the Snap, eliminating half of all life in the universe, including T'Challa.
