Samuel Thomas Wilson is a former United States Air Force Pararescue airman and former civil servant who is currently serving as the third Captain America.

Raised in Louisiana, Wilson enlisted in the United States Air Force Pararescue. He left active duty following the death of his wingman, Riley. As a civil servant in the Department of Veterans Affairs, Wilson assisted veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. During the Hydra uprising in 2014, Steve Rogers recruited Wilson to defeat Hydra. He assisted in dismantling Project Insight and fighting Brock Rumlow, a Hydra operative, in the Battle at the Triskelion. Wilson was recruited into the Avengers following Ultron's attempted human extinction. He was involved in an assignment to kill Rumlow, when Wanda Maximoff accidentally detonated an explosive inside an office building in Lagos, killing 26 people. Wilson opposed the Sokovia Accords, the United Nations' response to the attack limiting enhanced individuals, and joined Rogers' faction of the Avengers. He was incarcerated at the Raft until Natasha Romanoff and Rogers released him.

Wilson became a fugitive until the Infinity War, when Thanos waged an offensive to gather all six Infinity Stones. In the Battle of Wakanda, Wilson fought against Thanos, but he was defeated. Thanos perpetrated the Snap, eliminating half of all life in the universe, including Wilson. Five years later, he fought in the Battle of Earth. After Rogers returned the Infinity Stones used in the time heist to their points in time, he appointed Wilson to succeed him as Captain America. However, the U.S. government named John Walker as Captain America. Wilson, joined by Bucky Barnes and Helmut Zemo, fought against the Flag Smasher. After Walker was other than honorably discharged for killing Flag Smasher Nico, Wilson became the third Captain America.
