The destruction of Tony Stark's mansion was an assassination attempt on Tony Stark carried out by Aldrich Killian's Extremis soldiers at his mansion. The attack destroyed the mansion and led to the assumption that Stark was killed.
After the destruction of Grauman's Chinese Theatre, in which Stark's associate and the head of security for Stark Industries, Happy Hogan, was seriously injured, Stark threatened the "Mandarin", a fictitious character portrayed by Trevor Slattery whom Killian had hired to develop his insurrection plot.
Background[edit | edit source]
In the destruction of Grauman's Chinese Theatre, Tony Stark's associate and the head of security for Stark Industries, Happy Hogan, was seriously injured. Stark visited Hogan in the hospital and left. Stark threatened to kill the "Mandarin", a fictitious character portrayed by Trevor Slattery and attributed to several bombings, and provided his home address. Stark returned to his mansion, where he reconstructed the incident at the Chinese Theatre, discovering that Hogan had pointed to a dog tag belonging to the perpetrator, Jack Taggart. Stark accessed thermogenic records in the United States and found an incident, believed to be a suicide bombing, in Rose Hill, Tennessee. He requested J.A.R.V.I.S. plan a flight path to Rose Hill.
Destruction[edit | edit source]
Aldrich Killian sent three helicopters to his house in response to the threat. After Stark's analysis, Maya Hansen, a botanist who Stark had met at Bern 2000. Stark argued with his fiancée, Pepper Potts, who urged him to leave. During their argument, a missile hit the mansion. Stark equipped Potts with Mark XLII of his Iron Man armor and moved towards getting Potts and Hansen away from the attack.
Stark equipped the Mark XLII, a prototype, on himself and destroyed two helicopters. The second helicopter crashed into the mansion, sending the building and Stark into the ocean. J.A.R.V.I.S. programmed the Mark XLII to fly to Rose Hill.
Aftermath[edit | edit source]
Following the attack, Stark was presumed dead. Stark sent a message to Potts informing her he was alive. The attack destroyed Stark's mansion and much of his possessions, including Dum-E and U, his car collection, and the Iron Man armor from Mark I to VII, though the helmet of Mark VII was used to communicate to Potts. Dum-E and U were later repaired by 2016.
